I love the sea for many reasons, one of the biggest being the sheer mystery that surrounds it. Most people will probably have heard of a Ghost Ship before, a ship said to bring misfortune to any sailors unlucky enough to see it. The Flying Dutchman is probably the most well known example, but few people know that no ship in recorded history actually had that name. It's simply an old legend, but with little basis in history. But there's many, many ships that are still said to haunt the seas. Wikipedia has compiled and categorized the most famous ghost ships here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghost_shipI highly recommend you read the mystery of the Mary Celeste, which to this day, remains a historically attested, yet unsolved mystery.

I definitely agree with you about the sea. So many of life's mysteries involve it, ghost ships, sea monsters, the Bermuda Triangle, the bloop and Atlantis, just to name a few. If money were no object, I would live on the sea in a yacht. Ghost ships are fascinating. Perhaps that is why The Fog (1980) is one of my favourite movies. There is one in my region ( click here for wiki). I've never seen it, but my mother and her boyfriend say they have.

Most recent research now suggest, that It was actually the sound of an underwater ice quake. Basically, an iceberg breaking up, and the sounds of it being recorded. Still not totally definitive, but It's the most rational explanation so far. I have just the thing; www.wally.com/why/
