I was wondering what everyone here thought of Dracula Untold, the newest film in the Universal Monsters franchise. Personally, I was very excited and hyped for a new iteration of my favorite horror movie villain. I thought Luke Evans did very well as Dracula, although the exclusion of giving the character an accent was wrong in my opinion. The trailers were amazing, and the effects utilizing bats were all awesome. But sadly, I don't think the story and characters really lived up to the great effects. At the end I felt really disappointed with this origin story, as It downgrades Dracula as we know him from the King of the Undead, to basically just 1 monster in a large world. It was painfully obvious Universal aimed at this film to reboot the whole Monsters franchise, and eventually tie the new films together, a la Marvels cinematic Universe. And the film really suffered for it.
Overall, a rather disappointing film. The best things really were the effects and fight scenes. The lore waters down the Dracula character, and the film itself is clearly just a set up for more cash grab films, as It doesn't do much or even seem to aim at enriching a legendary character.
