Bet you didn't expect this topic around here. But there's a point; Not all soapies are drama related, long running, dreary and frankly so impossibly long and confusing, It's physically impossible to catch up on them. Every now and then, a supernatural soap opera saw the light of day. I've never gotten around to seeing them, since, for example Port Charles which was a spin off of General Hospital, only ran from 1997 to 2003 but had more dark and gothic themes, managed to pump out over 1600 episodes. Prior to that, Dark Shadows which ran from 1966 until 1971 made a little over 1200 episodes. As far as I know, the king of these dark and gothic soap operas, was The Edge of Night which managed over 7400 episodes. Impressive as those numbers are, keep in mind that mainstream soap operas have sometimes managed over 10,000 episodes. And are still running. I'd love to hear if anyone here has ever seen one of these, at length, or know of others like them.

The Edge of Night is the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title. My mother used to watch it when I was a kid, and one scene is burned in my memory.
A woman was in jail, and each night she heard shambling foot steps. One Friday episode (I think), a robed figure gradually walked by her cell. It slowly turned to face her, and inside the cowl was a skull. That scared the crap right the heck out of me.

That sounds awesome and thrilling.
As I said, I would love to get into these things, but each one has at least 1,000 episodes. Not the easiest thing to casually pick up. Imagine the size of the DVD box sets.
