Saturday morning cartoons
When I was a kid, Saturday mornings were the best part of the week. Six straight hours of cartoons such as Dungeons & Dragons, Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, Kids Super Power Hour, the Laff-A-Lympics and many more kept us riveted to the television. Even many of the commercials were good, such as Dr. Henry's Emergency Lessons for People (HELP) and Schoolhouse Rock. I think most North American guys of my generation can remember 'Just A Bill'.
You'd be a little sad when they ended for the day, but you could still get together with your friends and play out what you watched. I feel kind of bad for today's kids who won't be able to experience this.
Renting movies
The early days of VHS players were magical. No longer did you have to depend on tv and the rare trip to a theatre to see a movie. You just went to a video rental shop and picked out whatever interested you. I spent many happy hours wandering around the shelves, choosing what I wanted to watch (more often than not, horror). You could often find films you'd never heard of before, or thought you were never going to have the chance to see. There was a Mr. Movie that thorakor, Litch and I used to go to every weekend, where we discovered some of our favourite fright flicks.
